ALVEO vs MT4

Hi everyone
Bees and non-bees
I would like to open a Topic where everyone can share the things they are happy about ALVEO Trading Platform and where is room to improve it.
On the Apiary blog (https://blog.apiaryfund.com/what-is-the-best-forex-trading-platform),ALVEO is claimed to be the best trading platform available.
I just let this statement stand as it is and would like an objective discussion and easy to compare comment section for everyone tosee the advantages and disadvantages of what we use to trade with every day.
Quote from the blog :
If you’re going for a platform that you can use wherever you go, MetaTrader and NinjaTrader are on top. But if you’re looking for the cheapest and simplest option, especially to learn the trade and experience a trading platform, Alveo goes to the top of the list.

Now,I dont want and dont like to engage in useless critisism just because of frustration or trading not going the we planned like.

It is my honest intention to warn others about eventual traps and dangers using ALVEO wich are to avoid in regard to what all know using MT4 already.

I try to do this in a orderly manner so everyone can add and we all can clear and discuss some of the issues, hopefully motivating APIARY FUND to improve some of the things.

OK here it is.I think I make 2 colums without comment but numbers in front of them,so that everyone can refer to the number and share his view.
The Idea is to copy and paste the list for those who like to add more points,a;ways versus MT4 .

ALVEO MT4
0 Price 5 free 5 free

2 Installation 5 5
3 Konfiguration 3 5 Windows,charts,colurs indicators,font sizes
4 Trading experience 1 5 speed,execution
5 Spread 5 4 depending on the broker and account
6 Tools 3 5 trailing stop

10 Risk close position 4 0

12Connectivity 3 4
13 Pos protection 0 5 during rollover positions are not closed due to crazy spread moves
14 Liquidity 2 5
15 Requotes 3 4 dep. on the broker and acc.-type

Thats it for me so far.Again, this is my subjective opinion.I completely agree with others having a different view/experience.
what disturbed me most and motivated me to do this is the blog claim that says it is the best platform to use !Wich leaves no room to improve anything right.Good can be made better, but the best cannot.
When a Steve Jobs claimed he has changed the world through changing the way people communicate, this is absolutely true.

Thank you and I look forward with excitement where this leads. The fact that MT4 is available on every device I let out of the topc because I believe APIARY designed ALVEO intentionally this way wihout an app available.

I love this platform but one thing I do not like is that I can't seem to get the chart to display information from extended periods of time. I want to be able to look back as far as the eye can see. Some of these currency pairs have been on a downtrend for 43 years. But, you can't see that on Alveo. Other than that, I love being able to use Renko and Kagi charts. These types of charts are not easily available on Retail Trader platforms. Aside from that, I have tried to use MT4, I don't know why it's so popular aside from it's global versatility. For me it's even more intimidating than Interactive Broker's platform.

Since ALL Forex profits are based on price movement more than time, where are the Range Bar Charts? I am forced to use my TOS charts for that, which I use for trading futures.

Never mind, I see the trailing stop is actually working; I'm just trying to lock it in on a 5 pip gain; I need it to trigger so I can safely escape Copper III. I entered the trailing stop on a pullback so it took it a moment to return back to the point where I engaged the trailing stop.

Just a point of clarification. MT4 is free for the user, yes. However, the broker (i.e. Apiary) has to pay a licensing fee to offer the MT4 platform. This licensing fee I one reason Apiary developed Alveo.

Peace,
Greg

caflischmartin, when it comes to alveo...pretty much every "gui" convention that has been established, by windows to insure a intuitive, and easy experience, is violated.

without a doubt, alveo is one of the most laborious, mouse centric applications i have had the misfortune of using...with that said, i'm here to be a funded trader.

having managed developers, been responsible for coding, gui, and qa standards, i'm simply not a fan of alveo...it's sheer torture, yet, it is the tool i must use to trade with apiary.

so, it matters not what metatrader, tradingview, or any other well designed, and established trading platform offers, that is not what we have to work with...alveo is our tool.

the idea that they are now moving alveo to the cloud, is quite concerning.

i do know that apiary is very aggressive with how they want to use liquidity providers, which, as i understand it, it part of why the development of a custom application.

also, the management of sub accounts, and such, risk, etc. are additional factors.

still, no matter, this is the tool we have...i have adjusted, and adapted how i trade, to allow myself to trade within alveo, with as little difficulty as possible.

to my point, there is little i can do to eliminate, or even reduce the gross over use of mouse dependency...the inability to simply copy objects, and i'm someone who is constantly marking up my chart as i trade...alveo is sheer torture...i do my best to focus on my trades, and accept that any time i want to add, and edit something as simple as a line, that i'm going to have to click, click, click, click, and click before i have what i want displayed on my chart.

so, while i say i adjust, i have to say i've given up on the notion that alveo could ever be easy to use.

@burton Thank you for your input.I agree.I set it up this way to have a point of reference.
The goal is to see what a professional level of a trading platform would mean to us bees.
It cannot be that we have to perform well with a tool that obviously lacks professionality.
Scalping is a pain sometimes, positions not executed immediately, when opening 10 or more positions its not possible to close all with one click. Not only in times of news release, almost always. It doesnt matter what platform you take, this is simply not happening.I cannot trade a bigger position over night because it gets stopped out in the rollover spread circus, wich every other platform freezes all positions to protect them from this.Trailing stop doesnt trail all together having 10 or more positions open. When clicking highest profit on top after a few minutes I have to click again 2 or 3 times to make sure it is really the highest profit on top.I really cannot understand why.Its a simple math line every excelsheet can do.and many other things that add up and cost time !Time I like to use tofocus on the price and the candles, not on the platform.
Its sad, specially execution should be immediate, not 2 to 3 seconds waiting and then get a message,no data availble. Also APIARY claims themselves as a broker, wich I see as not true, because nobody can open an account with them. Its not necessary to be present everywhere.Funding company only would be great. No need to have the best platform,be the best broker etc.

caflischmartin, i know that shawn is aware, the biggest driving force, is the management of the funded accounts, at least that's how i understand it.

software is driven, first, by the primary intention/utility, and then, and only then, any secondary, or tertiary intentions/utilities.

my early posts, very much reflected your angst, still, i eventually realized, there was no point...to carry on with the angst, was to allow distraction to affect my trading.

just know, in your sentiment, you are not alone. =)

as an outsider looking in, i have serious questions about the development, yet, it is not on me to address such matters.

caflischmartin

yes,but we need to deal with it avery day ; )
