How many pairs?

How many pairs?

I am curious. For those who are funded and consistent, how many pairs do you follow?

Does that depend on how many monitors you have?

How many pairs are too much and why for you?

Thanks in advance for your thoughts.

For me 4 pairs is the maximum I can monitor at any given time as I like to trade on the 5M chart. I sometimes feel 4 pairs is too many when the market is very busy. When that's the case I will bring it down to 2 pairs and will monitor the 5M and 15M for each pair. If I try to monitor more than 4 pairs I end up missing too many movement or entering late which results in losses.

Hope this helps.

Great, thanks Mieroux for your thoughts. I agree, if I have too many pairs, I feel I am chasing things. I know there are some great opportunities out there, but I can only get them if I am focused.

For a short-term swing trade, I follow 6 pairs--exclude the long-term swing trade list and look for a daily ATR > 50 pips:

EUR/USD
USD/JPY
AUD/USD
NZD/USD
EUR/JPY
EUR/GBP

For a long-term swing trade, I follow 4 pairs--include the currency pairs in the short-term swing trade list. I look for a daily ATR > 200 pips:

GBP/USD
USD/CAD
GBP/JPY
EUR/AUD
GBP/NZD

For the following currency pairs that seem to have a tendency to whip away from a zone, I usually do not use a limit "set and forget" entry:

USDCAD
GBP/JPY
EUR/AUD

I use FXCM; thus, my analysis is very quick.

I've addressed this in a few other threads, so I'll summarize here. I regularly scan 20 pairs, and I've chosen to specialize in trading with 4 of them.
