VPS options

Hi Bees.

Since having some issues with SL not getting triggered I am searching for a good VPS.

I see Apiary has one and that makes the most sense but I am also considering https://fxvm.net/en/

Reason being I want to be able to host other trading accounts.

Support suggested using the beta Alevo for my SL issue.

Has this solved the problem for others or is there still a need for a VPS?

Can I host other trading platforms on the Apiary VPS?

Thanks

I use Amazon AWS EC2 free tier to run Alveo beta. To stay within the free quota of 750 hours a month I avoid overnight trading and stop the VPS at night which stops the uptime timer. With this VPS I had MT4 from other companies also but since have focused on Apiary.

Thanks. I need to run my trades all hours though. I like to get a trade to break even and let it go while I am at work or sleep when I am not in front of the computer.

I have used fxvm before. They were great. The back office was not the best but was simple enough to use. If I remember they were the vps that had a script to auto login to MT4 after a restart. I had set the VPS to restart once a week over the weekend via the windows task scheduler to make sure the vps was always up to date without me doing anything.

Amazon - is a bit complicated, but it offers 1 year free. - I felt like Google cloud was running smoother comparing it's free tier.
Google VPS is easier to launch, but it offers only few months for free.

I' now using Amazon (AWS) free tier to run EA test only.
I have latency issue connecting to them as I'm in Thailand, and the nearest Amazon site is in Singapore.

I also tried FXVM before, they were great. I didn't have issue connecting to them like Amazon VPS, but it's twice the price of Amazon with the same specifications.

I didn't think of trying a Amazon or Google VPS, it does seem smart to save costs, but then it is I guess a trade off between cost of your time in setup/maintenance/etc and possible downtime, and the cost of the fee to have (hopefully) some-else maintain a machine that is hopefully located close to your brokers servers.

I used ForexVPS right now, https://www.forexvps.net/forex-vps-hosting, the Basic+ plan, had not a single issue. I partly chose it because it offered a rebate plan with Pepperstone that would allow me to get it free, and I could locate in either NY or London giving very low ping times to brokers I was considering.

I have run Alveo on it fine, together with 4 MT4 terminals, but have not actively Alveo'd on it, in medium term I will have Alveo running on it full-time, so I guess I will see then.

You can run whatever you'd like on ApiaryVPS

I've been running my Google VPS for about 2 months now and it's doing great. I'll report again in a month or so.

Shawn told us this week that the Apiary VPS sits on server direct connect to internet. The only reason it would go down is if like this last week... the liquidity providers servers go down. We can't help that. Alveo would stop but other programs would continue to run and internet connection would be ok.

I'm waiting in the Drs office for my appointment. You know how that goes - actually, it's an appointment to wait!! I decided to try to use my time productively and try some trades on my tablet with my VPS. Works pretty good!! A little tedious on an 8" tablet, but I picked up about 25 pips after I got used to the constraints.

way to go JP, thanks for the post!

MAybe you should schedule more appointments to wait.:)

Update for US based traders: If you can set it up yourself AWS (Amazon) should work for you just fine. I tried it out and no glitches. Guaranteed uptime, etc. etc. not a lot to hate on if you are into a cloud-based solution....

Where can I find instructions on setting up Alveo to run on a VPS such as ForexVPS? Assuming that's possible.

gpdno

@cwbounds - A VPS is no different than your local machine. The only difference is you login remotely using Remote Desktop or something similar.

Once you're in the VPS just open up a web browser and download and install the Apiary Software. It installs and runs the same.

Peace,
Greg

I'm interested in getting involved with a using a VPS for my trading. Problem is I don't know anything about them . I do a lot of traveling and lugging computers gets to be too much. I'm looking for a low price system that is easy to set up
